The Theater of the Absurd has behind it the existential and absurdest philosophies that gained prominence in the 1940s. Harold Pinter –English playwright, he was awarded the noble prize in literature in 2005, he is known for his so –called Comedies of menace. Comedy Menace means comic elements-and it’s a comedy, which also produces tragic effect. Pinter's this play “The Birthday Party " is best example of comedy of menace because in that there is joke of Stanley's birthday even there is no birthday of him. The phrase comedy of menace as a standalone description inspires both positive and negative feelings.
Comedy is present in The Birthday Party from the very first scene;
Meg: Is Stanley up yet?
Petey: I don’t know. Is he?
